How To Care For Aquarium Puffer Fish. Where other fish may be streamlined and hydrodynamic cleaving through water like aquatic gazelles puffers tend to have all the manoeuvrability of an inebriated cow. Uneaten bits of food will pollute the tank water making a toxic environment for your fish.
Therefore we recommend this species only to experienced pufferfish keepers. Avoid keeping them with large predatory fishes like Catfishes or small long-tailedfined and slow-moving fishes like Guppies who will easily get attacked or nipped by the Pea Puffers. Some species of puffers also need to be feed frequently like the dwarf puffer.
However there are some that require frequent feedings like the dwarf puffer.
Most of them only require two to three meals per week depending on the age and breed. It is not considered easy to keep puffer fish in aquariums even though they are known to be hardy fish. Unlike the larger puffers commonly available in the hobby the dwarf puffer is a freshwater fish and should never be placed in brackish water. Therefore we recommend this species only to experienced pufferfish keepers.
